Becoming available by the end of August in the UK, Samsung are set to launch their stunning F86 and F96 series LCD TV's which feature amongst other things Full HD (1920 x 1080) screens, huge contrast ratios of up to 100,000:1 and Motion Plus (100Hz) processing.
With a contrast ratio of 25,000:1 and 100Hz frame rate, the F86 series will be available initially in 40in and 46in sizes retailing for around £1100 and £1500 respectively.
The really exiting figures materialize with the F96 which includes an LED backlight system capable of producing a claimed 100,000:1 contrast ratio for unparalled black level performance. The F96 also ups the ante with 10-bit processing (as opposed to the 8-bit processing on the F86 series). Available initially in 52in guise, the F96 will also come as a leviathan 70in model retailing for a whopping £23,000. The 52in model will set you back around £2500.
Both new series from Samsung feature three HDMI inputs and Samsung's 'Super Clear Panel' which has been designed to boost the already impressive contrast ratios (particularly in brighter conditions) and improve colour reproduction. In addition, Motion Compensated Frame Interpolation (McFi) technology produces sharper fast moving action by inserting new interpolated video frames between each frame of video to significantly reduce motion blur.
The F86 and F96 range will almost certainly expand during the coming months, and will provide some serious competition for Samsung's already well established M87 series.
