Panasonic DMP-BD50 Blu-ray player gets BD Live

Hot on the heals of Panasonic's 1.1 profile DMP-BD30 Blu-ray player comes their BD-Live enabled (essentially Blu-ray profile 2.0) DMP-BD50.

Core functionality within 'BD Live' allows a disc to check online each time it is played - for new content related to the particular film. This content could be anything from movie trailers, ringtones to actor info which can then be viewed through picture-in-picture mode.

The DMP-BD50 can decode and output all of the lossless audio codecs such as Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD. Additionally, it features 'audio re-master' which Panasonic claims compensates for the loss of data within compression systems such as Dolby Digital and DTS.

As we would expect, the DMP-BD50 also offers 1080p/24 along with Deep Colour and x.v.Colour support over HDMI 1.3. Like its younger sibling the BD30, the BD50 supports DivX, and can play files recorded in this format from both CD and DVD.

No word yet on exactly when the DMP-BD50 will arrive on these shores or how much of a premium there will be over the BD30.
