
With an announcement that they plan to make more content available on Youtube, the commercial arm of the BBC are set to extend their collaboration with the online video service.
BBC Worldwide acquires the licenses of shows after they have broadcast on the BBC, licenses which can subsequently be sold anywhere around the world.
The BBC is set to trial a limited number of full length episodes of natural history content "The Life of Birds" to viewers in the US. At some point, the service could be extended to the UK. The BBC currently only show clips of their more popular programmes but this could be extended to show the likes of 'Top Gear' and 'Torchwood' in their entirety.
As part of their collaboration with Youtube, BBC Worldwide has launched a new Youtube Channel, Explore, which shows clips of BBC factual shows like "Amazon with Bruce Parry". This follows the release of classic BBC cooking programmes via another channel, BBC Food.
