Panasonic introduce 85in Plasma TV

Catering for those who would like something with a little more impact than a 60in flat panel TV and can't quite accommodate the 100in + leviathans around, Panasonic have introduced an 85in Plasma.

Making the 85in screen even more practical, Panasonic have managed to shed 70% of their current 103in Plasma's weight (down to 130Kg) and reduced the depth of the screen to 99mm.

The weight saving and slim line profile are largely the result of Panasonic's NeoPDP double luminance technology technology which focuses on and improves the efficiency of three different components - materials and processes, gas discharge and cell design, and circuit technologies. Along with considerable weight savings, panels with NeoPDP use around half the power and are twice as bright as conventional Plasma screens.

The 85in plasma has a Full HD, 1,920 x 1,080 pixel resolution and a quoted contrast ratio of 40,000:1 static and 2,000,000:1 dynamic. The panel area is comparable to four 42in plasmas.

Panasonic are planning to release their 85in NeoPDP plasma throughout Europe this Autumn; there is no pricing information at the moment.
