LG 15in OLED launching this Christmas

Coming up along the rails to challenge the likes of Samsung and Sony, LG plan to launch their own OLED TV this Christmas.

LG's 15in OLED will arrive with an HD ready resolution of 1,366 x 768 pixels, allowing the display of 720p or 1080i content. A quoted 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio gives some indication of the depth of black that the technology can achieve.

Although manufacturers are generally quite optimistic with their contrast ratio figures, the incredibly deep black levels achieved by LG's OLED indicate something much closer to reality.

LG's first production OLED TV displays the same wonderful picture quality as Sony's XEL-1 OLED (currently on sale for £3,499), but at a full 4in larger is large enough to be seriously considered as a second TV; and at just 0.8mm thick the new screen looks like it will be a seriously stylish piece of audio visual kit.

LG have given no indication as yet of the price of their 15in OLED TV, but don't expect to get much change from £4000 when it arrives this Christmas.
