3D TV week comes to Channel 4
Sunday, 15 November 2009 09:00 UK

Believing that viewers are ready to embrace the new format, Channel 4 will be showing a selection of TV programmes in 3D for the week beginning Monday 16th November.

There will be nothing that sophisticated about Channel 4's 3D TV broadcast, viewers will still need to don a pair of those infamous blue and red specs (available free from Sainsburys). The emphasis on the extra dimensional week is to give us a taste of 3D in its heyday with a sprinkling of contemporary material.

A spokesperson for the channel 4 commented: We are "not talking state of the art IMAX technology... but some good old-fashioned fun" The schedule will include rare footage from 3D's heyday along with previously unseen content.

Viewers will be able to watch recently discovered footage of the Queen's coronation in 3D along with the likes of Friday the 13th Part III, a new Derren Brown show and JLS in concert.

The 3D effect will work best when viewed in a dark room, while not sitting too close to the TV (at least 1.5 metres away from the screen). Programmes will look their best on TV received by a digital set-top box like cable, Sky or Freeview. It will work on analogue but the effect won’t be as strong.
