Most manufacturers having long since run out of superlatives to describe the depth of their screens, LG have come up with 'Extreme Slim' for their world beating 2.6mm LED LCD TV.
Making its official debut at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2010 in Las Vegas, the 42in screen uses a separate box to house the bulky internal workings such as its connections and TV tuners.
The new screen uses an 'Edge' based implementation of LED technology where individual white LEDs are arranged around the inside frame of the TV along with a special light diffusion panel designed to spread the light evenly behind the LCD screen. The edge based system allows for much slimmer panels.

Having been caught napping a little by its Korean rival Samsung, LG is desperate to claw back lost ground in the lucrative LED market; the world's slimmest LED TV a statement of intent that they mean to be the dominant force in this area.
LG are planning a wholesale assault on the LED TV market with a huge range of models planned for 2010 and beyond. They have recently introduced their visually stunning SL9000 LED series.
The 42in and 47in screens adopt LG's SEAMLESS ™ Design where a single sheet of glass covers the entire front area of the panel. With a depth of just 2.9mm the SL9000 has become a serious alternative to Samsung's current line of ultra slim LED TV's.
