Monday, 04 January 2010 12:30 UK

Adding to their V5810 and W5810 range of Freesat enabled LCD TV's, Sony have introduced the 200Hz top end Z5800 series.

The Z5800 joins the recently launched V5810 and W5810 series as the first Sony LCD TV's to feature the DVB-S2 tuner for Freesat access. Freesat is a free (no subscription) digital TV satellite service providing over 140 digital TV and radio channels, including BBC and ITV in High Definition.

Freesat was launched on 6th May 2008 as a joint venture between the BBC and ITV and requires users to install a satellite dish to gain access.

Retaining all of the features of its Z5500 sibling, along with the Freesat tuner of course, the Z5800 gains the benefit of a 200Hz refresh rate along with Image Blur Reduction, the latest incarnation of Sony's picture processing engine, Bravia 3 and an energy consumption of 25-30% less in a new 'idle mode'.

The Z5800 is the only member of the Freesat range to include 200Hz processing and 'Live Colour Creation' technology which expands the range of available colours by around 30% over conventional LCD TV's. Elsewhere there are 4 HDMI's and a Full HD, 1920 x 1080 screen resolution.
