Panasonic fire the first big 3D salvo of 2010 with their stunning VT25 plasma series
Monday, 11 January 2010 12:05 UK

Panasonic have come out with all guns blazing at this years CES (Consumer Electronics Show) in Las Vegas with their stunning VT25 range of 3D enabled Plasma TV's.

Giving the format the kick start it needs in a year that so many commentators have predicted 3D TV would become mainstream, Panasonic have introduced 50in, 55in and 60in version of the panel destined to replace their current V10 series.

Bucking the 3D TV trend somewhat, Panasonic have employed their considerable plasma expertise to create the new screens. Other big manufacturers are adapting their LCD screens to accept 3D pictures. Panasonic feel that the richer blacks and more stable motion handling ability of plasma make it better suited to 3D.

With 3D enabled Cameras and Blu-ray players in the pipeline, Panasonic have invested heavily in the new format; hoping that consumers will embrace the whole 3D lifecycle.

Panasonic displayed their own, very impressive, proprietary glasses alongside the new 3D screens although it is not clear at the moment whether they will be bundled in with the TV's themselves. Other manufacturers such as Sony and JVC have signed up to use RealD 3D glasses.

Panasonic's 3D TV's on show at CES were mightily impressive and if the experience is translated into something approaching what we can expect in our living rooms then 3D has a big future..
