Anxious to make up for lost ground to the likes of Sharp and Samsung, Toshiba have added two new price competitive models to their range of LED enabled LCD TV's.
Just in time for this summer's world cup extravaganza the SL and WL series will feature an 'Edge' based implementation of LED technology for ultra slim screen profiles.
Taking advantage of the ongoing UK rollout of Freeview services in High Definition, the new screens from Toshiba have built-in Freeview HD capability.
The high end WL series features Active Vision M200HD (200Hz) processing, resolution +, and will be available in 40in, 46in and 55in varieties. The SL series features 32in, 40in and 46in models along with Active Vision M100HD (100Hz) processing.
Toshiba's Resolution+ (formerly Super Resolution Technology) has been designed to boost the quality of Standard Definition sources to something approaching High Definition quality.
Recognizing the success enjoyed by the likes of Samsung and Sharp with the introduction of LCD TV's with the less sophisticated implementation of LED technology, Toshiba have been anxious to offer there own cheaper alternative.
With the more sophisticated implementation of LED backlight technology, 'local dimming', Toshiba's current SV685 series LCD TV's offer supreme performance, but at a price.
Although the 3m or so LED TV's sold in 2009 represented just 16% of the total flat screen market, most manufacturers are planning models for 2010. They are all anxious to get a slice of a market which is predicted to achieve 16m unit sales in 2010 and account for the majority of LCD TV's sold by 2013.
