With elements of the technology which produced the now legendary Pioneer 'Kuru' range of Plasma TV's, via a technology sharing agreement, Panasonic's next generation screens have arrived in the UK.
Panasonic's 2010 range of flat panel TV's incorporate an improved panel production process and the new Real Black Drive system. The 13g screens feature a pre-discharge control system (Real Black Drive) with 2nd generation (G2) NeoPDP technology.
The G20 and X20 series of Plasma TV's are the first of the 2010 line up to reach the UK.
The G20 arrives with a built-in Freeview HD DVB-T2 and Freesat tuner, THX certification and more VIERA CAST functionalities including Skype and Blockbuster movie streaming.
Elsewhere there are 4 HDMI inputs, 600Hz Sub-field Drive Intelligent Frame Creation Pro and an update to Panasonic's core V-Real picture processing engine, which now comes in the shape of V-Real 5.
The G20 is Wi-fi ready, the extra functionality available via an optional dongle. There are now 2 USB ports for recording and playback of music and video files or viewing still photos.
The X20, not being part of the NeoPDP stable loses 600Hz Sub-field drive for 100Hz processing. There is no THX certification.
The HDMI count drops 1 to 3 and there is no built in Freesat or Freeview HD tuner. Contrast ration goes from the G20's 'Infinite' to a mere 2,000,000:1.
